Robinhood has launched cryptocurrency trading in the UK, allowing eligible customers to buy, sell and hold more than 50 digital assets directly through its investing app.

The launch expands Robinhood’s UK product lineup beyond stocks, options and futures and marks another step in the company’s push to become a global, multi-asset financial platform.

Crypto services are being provided through Bitstamp UK, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)-registered crypto business acquired by Robinhood in 2025.

Crypto Comes to Robinhood UK

UK customers can now access more than 50 cryptocurrencies through Robinhood, including major assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and XRP.

Instead of requiring users to open a separate crypto account, Robinhood has integrated digital assets into its existing investment platform. Customers can manage crypto alongside traditional investments through the same app.

The move reflects a broader convergence between traditional finance and cryptocurrency. Brokerages are adding digital assets to attract younger and more tech-oriented investors, while crypto companies are increasingly offering access to stocks and other financial products.

For Robinhood, bringing crypto into its existing ecosystem could encourage its traditional investment customers to gain exposure to digital assets without using a dedicated cryptocurrency exchange.

Bitstamp Supports the Expansion

Bitstamp is playing a central role in Robinhood’s international crypto strategy.

Robinhood completed its acquisition of Bitstamp for approximately $200 million in 2025. The deal gave Robinhood established crypto infrastructure, institutional relationships and regulatory capabilities across multiple markets.

In Britain, Bitstamp UK provides the cryptoasset services supporting Robinhood’s offering. The arrangement gives Robinhood an established foundation for operating in the UK while allowing the company to focus on its consumer-facing platform.

The acquisition is also expected to support Robinhood’s wider international expansion. Instead of developing new crypto infrastructure in every market, Robinhood can leverage Bitstamp’s existing operations and regulatory experience.

Zero Trading Fees

Robinhood is entering the UK crypto market with a zero-trading-fee proposition.

The company says customers will pay no trading, account maintenance or custody fees for crypto. However, foreign-exchange charges may apply when users convert currencies.

That means customers can still face costs depending on how they fund or trade their accounts. Nevertheless, the absence of trading commissions gives Robinhood a competitive pricing proposition in a market where exchanges and fintech platforms are competing aggressively for retail investors.

Commission-free trading has been a defining part of Robinhood’s business model since its early expansion in the US. Extending the approach to cryptocurrency reinforces the company’s focus on simple and low-cost investing.

UK Crypto Regulation Is Changing

Robinhood’s launch comes as Britain prepares for a major overhaul of its crypto asset rules.

The FCA is developing a comprehensive regulatory framework covering activities such as crypto trading and custody. The future regime is expected to introduce stronger requirements around consumer protection, market integrity and financial resilience.

The FCA has also repeatedly warned that cryptoassets remain high-risk investments. Their prices can fluctuate sharply, and investors may lose some or all of their money.

For Robinhood, operating in this evolving environment will require balancing rapid product expansion with increasingly demanding compliance requirements.

Its use of Bitstamp UK provides an important advantage because the business already has experience operating within the UK’s regulated crypto environment.

Robinhood Adds AI-Powered Crypto Insights

The UK launch also comes alongside Robinhood’s expansion of AI-powered crypto tools.

The company is introducing Cortex Digests for Crypto, designed to help users understand market movements and developments affecting digital assets.

The feature fits Robinhood’s broader strategy of combining trading with automated information and analysis. For less experienced investors, understanding why a cryptocurrency is moving can be just as important as having access to the asset itself.

Robinhood is increasingly positioning its platform as an integrated financial hub rather than simply a stock-trading app. Its expansion into crypto, derivatives, prediction markets and blockchain infrastructure reflects that transformation.

Competition Will Be Intense

Robinhood enters a crowded UK crypto market that already includes major exchanges, fintech companies and traditional financial institutions.

Its main advantage is integration. Existing Robinhood customers can now access cryptocurrency without moving money to another platform or managing a separate account.

However, specialist crypto exchanges may continue to appeal to experienced traders seeking broader token selections, advanced trading features and deeper market liquidity.

Robinhood appears to be targeting a different segment: mainstream investors who value convenience and want cryptocurrency alongside traditional investments.

The UK launch therefore represents more than the addition of 50-plus digital assets. It is another step in Robinhood’s attempt to turn its app into a single destination for multiple financial products.

With crypto trading now available in Britain, zero trading fees and new AI-powered market tools, Robinhood is positioning itself for a larger role in the UK’s digital-asset market.

The timing could prove particularly important. As Britain moves toward a comprehensive crypto regulatory regime, Robinhood will have an opportunity to establish its brand among UK investors while adapting to a more mature and tightly regulated cryptocurrency industry.
