BNB Chain, which is the centerpiece of the Binance ecosystem, had its official X account hacked by attackers on October 1, 2025. attackers promptly started using the high-profile account to endorse a litany of malicious airdrop links, putting the millions of people following the platform’s account at considerable risk.This move was quickly followed by Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ), who advised the community to be careful to not engage with any links coming from the account.

Hackers Breach Official Account with Phony Airdrop Links
After taking control of the account, the hackers posted various ads promoting a bogus airdrop of BNB tokens to trick innocent users into clicking on harmful links.
These links took victims to a bogus site carefully made to resemble an official Binance or BNB Chain page. The phony site urged visitors to link their cryptocurrency wallet using Wallet Connect, a common scammer practice to access permissions to pilfer money. To maximize pressure and circumvent critical thinking, lots of posts fabricated a false urgency by offering a “limited 24-hour” deal and even promoted a bogus memecoin to make the scam appear more legitimate and timely.

Binance Founder CZ Issues Emergency Alert while Security Team Springs into Action
Following the hack, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao about the breach on his personal X account to announce the leak and provide a categorical warning to the cryptocurrency community, asking followers not to tap on any links or respond to the hacked account.
In the background, Binance’s security team was busy working to contain the threat. They immediately reached out to platform X to report the hack and ask that the gorvernace shutdown BNB Chain account temporarily to stop the malicious links from spreading further.
BNB team also start to have a procedure to identify and report the malicious sites to get them shut down. CZ’s alert was an important reminder to users to be on their toes and to verify all links accurately, even those that seem to originate with genuine sources.
Sophos Firewall Bypassed by Sophisticated Hacker Gang
Lots of hackers attack BNB with various large-scale crypto scams, and its involvement would mean that the hackers plan an attack with coordinated efforts.
Binance confirmed that it is actively investigating the case together with platform X. 
Social media channels of flagship projects are ideal targets for attackers, hackers utilize to prey on the trust of a large and active community.
This attack stresses the necessity to maintain multi-layered security measures, such as multi-factor verification and stringent access controls, to safeguard these crucial channels of communication against phishing and cheating.
Hacked “4” Memecoin Experiences 37x Surge in Weird
In a very weird turn of events, hackers also used the stolen BNB Chain account to shill the ”4” memecoin. When they shilled the token, hackers then “dumped” their entire position, realizing a small gain of about $4,000 and causing the price of the memecoin to crash.
What happened next, however, defied conventional market logic. Crypto community began purchasing the token en masse “to troll the hackers back,” after the hackers dumped their holding. This caused a buying frenzy, with price increases reported at over 500%, and at one point increasing by a staggering 37x from the low post-dump price after the hacker had dumped their position. This insane turnaround went viral as a meme, and even Binance founder CZ chimed chimed in on X with a post dubbing it the “funniest community comeback.”
