Bitcoin climbed back above $84,000 on Monday as easing oil prices offered some relief to cryptocurrency markets, even as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs suffered their largest weekly withdrawals since June.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency traded near $84,050 after briefly slipping to $83,500 earlier in the session. The recovery brought Bitcoin close to Sunday’s high of $84,145, suggesting buyers were willing to defend current levels despite persistent macroeconomic uncertainty.

The rebound came as West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures fell 1.8% to $90.28 per barrel, easing concerns about energy-driven inflation. Meanwhile, U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded $681 million in net outflows last week, highlighting a growing disconnect between Bitcoin’s short-term price resilience and institutional fund flows.

With U.S. inflation data scheduled for October 14, traders are watching whether Bitcoin can maintain its recovery or face another test of the $82,000 support level.

Bitcoin Holds Above $84,000 as Crypto Market Recovers

Bitcoin’s return above $84,000 followed a relatively volatile start to the week, with prices briefly dipping below $83,500 before buyers stepped in.

The recovery extended beyond Bitcoin. Nine of the ten largest cryptocurrencies posted gains over the previous 24 hours, according to Purvang Mashru, an analyst at BitDelta India.

Avalanche (AVAX) led the advance, climbing 5.1% to $10.91, while Chainlink (LINK) gained 2.4% to $13.35. Solana (SOL) rose 1.2%, with BNB, XRP, Dogecoin and Cardano also moving higher.

The broad-based gains suggest that improving sentiment was not limited to Bitcoin. However, the relatively modest increases across most major tokens indicate that investors remain cautious rather than aggressively rebuilding exposure.

Bitcoin’s ability to hold above $84,000 is particularly important after recent selling pressure. A sustained move higher could encourage traders to increase their positions, while another decline toward $82,000 would test whether buyers remain confident in the recovery.

For now, the market appears to be stabilizing rather than entering a decisive bullish trend.

Bitcoin ETFs Lose $681 Million as Institutional Demand Weakens

Despite Bitcoin’s price recovery, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs continued to experience substantial withdrawals.

According to data from SoSoValue, spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $681 million in net outflows last week, marking their largest weekly withdrawals since June.

Most of the selling was concentrated on October 7 and 8, suggesting that investors were reducing exposure ahead of potentially market-moving economic developments.

ETF flows have become an important indicator of institutional demand since U.S. spot Bitcoin funds began trading. These products allow investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin through traditional brokerage accounts without directly holding the cryptocurrency.

When investors withdraw money from spot ETFs, fund managers may need to sell underlying Bitcoin to meet redemptions. Sustained withdrawals can therefore add selling pressure, particularly when market liquidity is limited.

However, ETF flows do not represent the entire Bitcoin market. Trading on cryptocurrency exchanges, derivatives positioning and purchases by other investors can offset ETF-related selling.

Vikram Subburaj, CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Giottus, noted that ETF flows remain volatile, indicating that Bitcoin’s recent stabilization has not yet translated into consistent institutional inflows.

The contrast is significant. Bitcoin has managed to recover above $84,000 despite substantial fund withdrawals, but a stronger and more sustainable rally may require renewed demand from ETF investors.

Until then, institutional positioning remains a potential obstacle to further gains.

Falling Oil Prices Ease Inflation Concerns

The decline in crude oil prices provided another source of support for cryptocurrency markets.

WTI crude futures dropped 1.8% to $90.28 per barrel, reversing part of the previous week’s advance following President Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement involving Russian diesel supplies.

Details surrounding the proposed arrangements remain uncertain, including how they would be implemented and whether they would materially affect global energy supply.

Nevertheless, the retreat in oil prices offered some relief to investors concerned about renewed inflationary pressure.

Higher energy costs can push up transportation, manufacturing and consumer prices, making it more difficult for central banks to bring inflation under control.

For Bitcoin, the connection is indirect but important. Persistent inflation could encourage the Federal Reserve to maintain restrictive monetary policy, keeping borrowing costs elevated and reducing investors’ appetite for speculative assets.

Conversely, declining energy prices could ease inflation expectations and strengthen the case for more accommodative monetary policy.

Still, one session of falling oil prices is unlikely to change the broader outlook. Elevated U.S. Treasury yields and geopolitical uncertainty continue to weigh on risk-sensitive markets, including cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin Faces $82K Support Test Ahead of U.S. CPI Report

Attention is now shifting to the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report scheduled for October 14.

The inflation figures could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next policy decisions, particularly as investors assess whether price pressures are easing sufficiently to support lower interest rates.

A softer-than-expected reading could strengthen risk appetite, potentially benefiting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Conversely, stronger inflation could push Treasury yields higher and trigger renewed selling pressure.

Both Subburaj and Mashru identified $82,000 as a key near-term support level for Bitcoin.

A break below that threshold could weaken the recovery and encourage additional selling. Holding above it, meanwhile, would suggest that buyers remain active despite uncertain macroeconomic conditions.

On the upside, Sunday’s high near $84,145 provides an immediate reference point. A sustained move beyond that level could improve short-term momentum, although stronger confirmation would require broader buying activity.

The next few sessions may therefore prove important for Bitcoin’s direction.

While falling oil prices have offered temporary relief, the combination of ETF withdrawals, elevated bond yields and upcoming inflation data leaves the recovery vulnerable to sudden shifts in sentiment.

Bitcoin has regained $84,000, but whether it can build on that recovery will depend on how investors respond to the next round of U.S. economic data.
